Our Vision
To empower women faculty members to excel while supporting an inclusive culture in IANR.
Our Mission
Our mission is to engage and develop strategies to enhance the careers of women faculty. Our mission, and strategies needed to support the vision and mission, are best represented by two words: Success and Change. Pictorially, we like to represent Success and Change as two connected wheels, and strategies, activities, and objectives needed to support each wheel are represented as the spokes on each wheel.
For our Wheel of Success, we need to advance, support, empower and realize each individual’s potential by creating opportunities, fostering individuals as they grow, providing professional development opportunities, developing structures to support mentor relationships with others, and forming a peer support network. We also need to advocate for individuals and each other throughout our career trajectories and provide ways to promote, reward, and celebrate all women and their milestones.
To balance the Wheel of Success, we need a parallel Wheel of Change. Within the spokes on the Wheel of Change, we need to create a positive culture where women can grow, provide support and resources, and address disparities while being inclusive. We need to revise and create policies and practices that aim to improve equity and enable more opportunities for growth and leadership in careers of women, with the needs for a work-life-balance and wellbeing in mind. We need to develop groups of allies that understand diversity is critical and that the environment that promotes women career success within IANR is an environment that promotes all within IANR. Above all, we need to listen to the needs of women within IANR and be the professional community where they have trust and feel comfortable coming to get help, encouragement, and support on the path to becoming successful.
These two wheels of Success and Change are linked by accountability, engagement, involvement, connection, positive communication, recruitment, retention, networks and opportunities. The linkage between the two wheels provides balance and feedback to ensure that as the individual spokes of change are accomplished, these accomplishments are reflected in are stronger linkages (engagement, involvement, connection, etc.), which promote career success.
