Global Learning Hub Announces Spring 2022 Programming

The CASNR Global Learning Hub is excited to announce another semester of globally-themed programming for students, faculty, staff and the broader IANR community in Spring 2022. With a focus on a broader definition of what a “global” experience means, the events and opportunities will include a mix of physical travel, virtual events and in-person interactive programming.

MANRRS offers minority students opportunity to build community

Being a first-generation student comes with many challenges, especially when finding support. One first-generation student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has found her support through the UNL chapter of Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS).

MANRRS is a national society that promotes ethnic minorities in agricultural sciences and related fields, according to the MANRRS website.

Alumni Spotlight: Merani uses skills to help conduct life-saving missions on U.S.-Mexico border

In the late 2010's, Paul Merani had a full-time postion as a GIS specialist at the College of Arts and Science and was a student center for Advanced Land management Information Techologies (CALMIT) in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's School of Natural Resources. He was working on a multi-year Nebraska Army National Guard grant-funded project at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln that was nearing its conclusion. Yes, he thought, the grant would likely be renewed.

Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I came to Lincoln because I wanted to pursue agriculture and I believed that UNL was a great fit for me. I also wanted to experience new cultures and get exposed to new opportunities that UNL has to offer.

Support made all the difference for entomology grad (December Grad Spotlight)

A series of happy accidents brought Blessing Ademokoya here to pursue her doctorate in entomology, but personal tragedy cemented her love of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and its community.

CASNR to celebrate international education during November

The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) Global Learning Hub will be host to numerous events this November as the larger university community celebrates International Education Week. This year, the official celebrations run from November 15 to 19, 2021. However, to provide additional flexibility for students’ schedules and to further elevate the power of a global education, IEW at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln celebration has been extended to a month-long celebration from November 1 to 24, 2021.

UNL doctoral student feels at home in North Platte, grows her interest in ag

Nebraska reminds Jiaming Duan where she was born and raised in China.

Duan came to study for her Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and spends part of her time at the West Central Research, Extension, and Education Center in North Platte.

“Agriculture is the main industry in the province where I grew up,” Duan said. “So that is one reason why I want to learn agriculture.”

In her youth, Duan said she heard a lot of stories about agriculture.
