2018 Year of Global Momentum for IANR

                As we begin 2019 with earnest anticipation, we look back on an eventful 2018. There was active development of key strategic partnerships and initiatives, increased international exchange of students and faculty research collaboration—including hundreds of faculty engaged in research, extension and educational programming in over 120 countries—and an increase in forward momentum toward a university with internationalization woven into the fabric of its current and future work.

Nebraska students, visiting scholar engage with global leaders at World Food Prize

Seven undergraduate students from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, as well as a visiting international scholar with the Borlaug Fellowship program and her faculty mentor, attended this year’s World Food Prize Norman E. Borlaug International Symposium, or “Borlaug Dialouge” in Des Moines, Iowa, named for famed agronomist, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and “Father of the Green Revolution,” Norman Borlaug.

Alumnus takes Nebraska community development experience to Zimbabwe

In this guest post, we feature an interview from the Rural Futures Institute, where they share the story of Briely Kuhudzai, an alumnus of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources' applied science master's program in community development. As part of his graduate work, Kuhudzai completed a serviceship in Cozad, Nebraska.

Husker spends summer with 5,000-year-old tribe in Kenya

Husker Cody Willnerd always wanted to visit Africa. The diverse ecology and wildlife of the vast continent sparked his imagination as a child when he watched Animal Planet.

Little did he know then that one day he’d be in one of the most remote parts of Kenya, conducting interviews with and learning about the Dassanech tribe, a pastoralist population practicing a traditional lifestyle that dates back more than 5,000 years in East Africa.

IANR’s Impact is Global…and Growing

Agriculture and natural resources have a unique place in Nebraska and provide the foundation for a number of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s international partnerships and initiatives.  The Office of Global Engagement in the Institute of Agriculture & Natural Resources (IANR) coordinates the university’s international engagement across these key themes and across IANR’s land-grant mission of education, research and extension.

Local and international experts to discuss critical issues around trade

Experts will discuss critical issues surrounding international trade in Nebraska this week at the inaugural CME Group Foundations Symposium of the Clayton Yeutter Institute of International Trade and Finance. Entitled “Changing Governments, Changing Trade: Impacts from Global to Local," the event will be held Tuesday, March 13 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Nebraska Innovation Campus conference center. While free and open to the public, advance registration is requested.

Chinese research exchange program marks sixth year at Nebraska

For the sixth consecutive summer, undergraduate students from Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU) in Yangling, China conducted research under the mentorship of over 90 University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty. One element of a long term, multi-pronged relationship with the Chinese university, the exchange, or "REU program," has been a successful one, meaningfully engaging over 115 students from the university in the course of the program's tenure and often attracting them to join graduate programs at UNL.

International, domestic students gather to talk global issues

The Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources’ (IANR) Global Engagement office, in partnership with the Agricultural Education, Leadership and Communication (ALEC) Department recently gathered students from four countries across multiple continents for a dialogue on pressing global issues. The event was held as part of the Agriculture and Innovation Seminar programming for the Argentina Friends of Fulbright student group in their last week of their stay at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).

Research fellowship program in India: student opportunity

Water is a vital necessity for human development, the environment and the economy. Because of its global importance, the Government of India and its Department of Science and Technology (DST), the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute (DWFI) and the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum have partnered to foster cooperation between students and scientists from both countries.
