The Director of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is charged with leading, coordinating, and promoting all aspects of our land-grant mission within the school. The incumbent oversees all SVMBS programmatic initiatives and represents the school to IANR and other administrators at both the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Iowa State University. 

The school director fosters a culture in which all contributions to the team are appreciated and recognized, collaboration and innovation are encouraged, and the abilities of all are engaged to realize the full potential of the team and each team member. The incumbent also mentors and supervises faculty and staff, including the directors or coordinators of the Nebraska Veterinary Diagnostic Center (NVDC), the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine (PPVM; a joint DVM program with Iowa State University), and the Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center (GPVEC). The director manages financial and physical resources responsibly and strategically to maximize their effectiveness by exhibiting fiscal discipline and transparency and using best financial stewardship practices. The incumbent ensures opportunities are open to all and that efforts are made to engage audiences throughout the state and beyond. The director synthesizes a vision for the school with input from faculty, staff, and stakeholders that encompasses all teaching, research, and Extension areas. They seek and deploy personnel and financial resources purposefully and ensure that the school’s strategic vision is continuously examined for relevancy and refreshed as needed.
