IANR Communications FAQ

How do I request a news release or story?

Email your request to a member of the news writing team — Russell Shaffer, Geitner Simmons, or Natalie Jones. Please include key details, deadlines, and any supporting materials.

Who should I contact if the media reaches out to me directly?

If you are contacted by the media, let Cara Pesek know right away. She can help with messaging, prepare you for interviews, or respond on your behalf if needed.

How do I add an event to the IANR Calendar?

Send event information to Natalie Jones. Please provide all key details (date, time, location, description, contact).

How do I promote my program or event on social media?

Contact Natalie Jones with your request. Include images, dates, and the message you’d like to share. IANR Communications manages official institute-level accounts and can amplify unit-level events.

How do I submit content for the IANR News Now newsletter or other external emails?

Send your stories, spotlights, or event information to Natalie Jones. Submissions are considered based on institute priorities, audience interest, and available space.

How do I submit stories to UComm and Nebraska Today?

Send your stories and any accompanying photos and/or cutlines to Russell Shaffer. Turnaround time for UComm is generally 7-10 days. All IANR stories that run in Nebraska Today also run on the IANR News website. Nebraska Today has a broader audience than IANR News, so UComm may determine a particular story isn’t a fit for their target audience — if that’s the case, we will generally run the story in IANR News only.

What is the typical turnaround time for a news release?

Please allow at least 10 business days from the time you submit all materials. More complex projects or those requiring coordination may take longer.

Who should I contact in a crisis or urgent situation?

Cara Pesek is the primary contact for crisis communication. She will coordinate with leadership and media as needed.

Can I share content from IANR’s News site?

Yes. Media, partners, and anyone else are welcome to share stories from the IANR News site. We encourage sharing with proper attribution by linking back to the original story. Stories may also be reprinted in full, provided that IANR News and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln are credited.

Does the university offer services for live-streaming video of events?

Yes. IANR Media offers video live-streaming services for events. To request support, contact Mike Kamm. Requests should be made well in advance of your event to allow time for scheduling.
