A bioinformatics journey from Brazil to Nebraska and back

2018 Year of Global Momentum for IANR

                As we begin 2019 with earnest anticipation, we look back on an eventful 2018. There was active development of key strategic partnerships and initiatives, increased international exchange of students and faculty research collaboration—including hundreds of faculty engaged in research, extension and educational programming in over 120 countries—and an increase in forward momentum toward a university with internationalization woven into the fabric of its current and future work.

Zimbroff receives Fulbright Scholar Award to Brazil

Andrew Zimbroff, assistant professor and extension specialist in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design, has been selected for a Fulbright Scholar Award to Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz (ESALQ) in Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil from Sept. 1-Dec. 31. During his time at ESALQ, a unit of the University of San Paulo, Zimbroff will be teaching, researching and promoting innovative agribusiness entrepreneurship.

IANR’s Impact is Global…and Growing

Agriculture and natural resources have a unique place in Nebraska and provide the foundation for a number of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s international partnerships and initiatives.  The Office of Global Engagement in the Institute of Agriculture & Natural Resources (IANR) coordinates the university’s international engagement across these key themes and across IANR’s land-grant mission of education, research and extension.

Nebraska faculty selected by São Paulo Research Foundation for collaborative project funding

Two University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty members, Steven Thomas and Chris Calkins, have been selected for funding by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in Brazil through the SPRINT initiative - São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration. The program aims to promote the engagement of U.S. researchers with higher education institutions in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.

"FAPESP Week" Brazil-USA Symposium to be held at Nebraska

In 2017, from September 18 to 22, the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) and Texas Tech University will organize FAPESP WEEK NEBRASKA AND TEXAS. The symposium aims at strengthening the links between scientists from Brazil and United States with the objective of promoting research partnerships. Nebraska's part in the event will be held Monday, September 18 and Tuesday, September, 19. 

Nebraska researchers selected by São Paulo Research Foundation for collaborative projects

Three University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) faculty members, Mark Wilkins, Troy Gilmore and Gota Morota, have been selected for funding by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in Brazil with projects ranging from water management to biomass material development and beef cattle genetics.

Nebraska Agronomist Ken Cassman honored by Swedish Academy of Sciences

The Swedish Academy of Sciences has named University of Nebraska-Lincoln agronomist Kenneth Cassman the recipient of the 2017 Bertebos Prize for promoting education and research in the food chain.

The Bertebos Prize is awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry and is sometimes referred to by scientists as Sweden’s “Nobel Prize in Agriculture.”
