Why did you choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

My decision to choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for my graduate studies in entomology was driven by its outstanding research opportunities, esteemed faculty members, and conducive working environment. I am confident that UNL will provide me with the resources, mentorship, and collaborative opportunities needed to thrive academically and contribute meaningfully to the field of entomology.

Why did you decide to pursue a Graduate Degree? Why entomology?

My passion for insects traces back to my childhood, where I found myself captivated by their intricate world. Even though catching them was often a challenge, I reveled in the thrill of the chase. As I grew older, my curiosity about these fascinating creatures only deepened. I yearned to understand more about their behavior, ecology, and significance within our ecosystems. This innate fascination led me to choose a graduate degree in entomology.

What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?

One of the most enjoyable academic experiences so far has been my enrollment in the Insect Behavior course instructed by Dr. Tom Weissling. Within this course, the opportunity to engage in the observation of insect behavior was a great experience for me because, for the very first time, I observed some really cool interesting behaviors of insects.

What is the topic of your dissertation? What interested you in this topic?

I am working on Wheat Curl Mite which can vector (transmit) four different viruses. The fact that it is microscopic in size but causes several million dollars in loss to the farmers by acting as a vector for viruses caught my interest.

What are your plans after graduation?

After completing my graduate degree, I aspire to pursue a career in academia and secure a position as an assistant professor. In addition to my professional goals, I also envision building a life with my boyfriend.
